There is here both a report of ills that may, indeed, pervade Arab society, and a lamentable absence of appreciation for their underlying causes. The text is written as if the author begrudges Arabs, their language, their religion, their society, bedeviled as it were by an intellectually immature rancor. This is a look at the Arab “mind,” something historians and sociologists engaged in during colonial times to better rationalize their skewed ideologies. Historians are usually well advised not to embark on their studies while contemptuous of the people who are the subject of those studies- Ed.
